The workshop aims to facilitate collaborations between researchers and will have substantial dialogue and networking activities as well as invited overview presentations, panel discussions and the opportunity to present your work in poster sessions. Sessions planned for the programme are:

In addition to the main programme we will have a practical activity on the Monday afternoon where we will all take measurements of surface temperature in and around the Reading campus. Practical details are given on the meeting logistics page here.

This will be a fun but educational start to the meeting and offer a unique insight into small-scale temperature variability. We intend that this activity will lead to a publication for all participants (weather permitting!).

Reading has an excellent network of buses and the Whiteknights Campus is served by a number of routes for those that wish to stay in the City Centre instead. There is a wider choice of hotels in the City Centre, which you can book through the many online booking sites.
The main bus serving the Whiteknights Campus is the number 21 and a map can be found at Route21_Map including details of where to get on and off the bus in the city and at the university. There is also the number 17 and number 19, which stop near to the Early Gate side of Campus (closer to the Department of Meteorology). The fourth international meeting of the EarthTemp Network will be on the theme of “exploring the complexity of urban surface temperatures”.
The EarthTemp Network aims to stimulate international collaboration in measuring and understanding the surface Temperatures of Earth. Meetings are designed to bring together expertise from different measurement and application communities. The aim is to establish new scientific and personal links, fostering more integrated understanding of surface temperatures across different domains. Meetings include keynote presentations, discussion groups and throught-provoking workshop activities. Urban environments are the focus of the 2015 network meeting. The complexity and three dimensional nature of urban “surface” temperatures is a major challenge for measurements and for their interpretation and use in a wide range of applications.
This meeting will explore the meanings of surface temperature as represented by a range of measurements (e.g., various forms of remote sensing and in situ thermometry), how these relate to each in the context of the three-dimensional nature of the cityscape, how to integrate insights from different measurements to support a range of applications, including climate, and what factors drive the urban temperature environment.
The 4th EarthTemp Network meeting will take place on 8-10 June 2015 at the University of Reading:
